Vegetarian Oyster Sauce
This vegetarian oyster sauce, or stir-fry sauce, is the perfect substitute for regular oyster sauce in Chinese cookery. Enhance food with the umami-rich mushroom flavours of vegetarian ‘oyster’ sauce – perfect for stir fries, dipping sauces and glazes.
The vegetarian oyster sauce is made by Lee Kum Kee – a company founded by Lee Kam Sheung – the inventor of the original oyster sauce. The chef from Guangdong was cooking an oyster broth in 1888, when he accidentally let it caramelize, only to discover what delicious flavours it created. The company has continued to grow over four generations and has won several awards for the quality of its sauces.
