Ape Nera Sicula Amodeo Carlo’s Orange Honey is produced in the Ragusa and Agrigento areas in April. It has a medium intense aroma reminiscent of orange blossom but also jasmine in a mixture of floral and fruity notes. It is almost colorless when still liquid, straw yellow, pearly white when it crystallizes. It is one of the most universally appreciated table honeys.
Like all the Carlo Amodeo Company’s range of honeys, in order for Orange Honey to retain all its properties longer, it is extracted from the honeycombs taken from the flowering areas every 7 days to avoid oxidation at high temperatures, immediately centrifuged, decanted, potted and placed in cold storage at 4 degrees.
Apicoltura Carlo Amodeo boasts a production of the finest and most typical Sicilian honeys that comes from the native Sicilian bee, the Black Bee (Apis mellifera siciliana), declared a Slow Food Presidium. Defined as black because of its very dark color, the Sicilian bee is distinguished by some important peculiarities such as productivity and earliness. In addition, the Sicula bee has very low honey consumption and possesses a strong ability to develop from even small nuclei.
It should be noted that the information on honey density and color described on this page may vary slightly depending on the time of year.
